HIPAA Notice

Clear guidance for U.S. users on how HIPAA may or may not apply to information shared with Ayura.

Last updated: March 24, 2026

This notice is provided for clarity because some users may assume that all wellness or health-related app data is automatically covered by HIPAA. In most ordinary consumer uses of Ayura, that is not the case.

1. What HIPAA is

HIPAA is a U.S. law that applies to certain covered entities, such as health plans and healthcare providers, and some of their business associates, when they handle protected health information.

2. Ayura's normal consumer role

Ayura is generally offered as a consumer wellness and lifestyle platform. Ayura is not ordinarily acting as a covered entity, healthcare provider, insurer, or emergency medical service when you use the app for consumer wellness features such as quizzes, routine tracking, food analysis, or face-scan-based wellness reflection.

3. When HIPAA usually does not apply

  • When you use Ayura directly as a consumer wellness app.
  • When Ayura provides lifestyle, educational, or wellness content outside a regulated healthcare arrangement.
  • When data is submitted by a user directly to Ayura rather than through a covered healthcare provider acting under HIPAA.

4. When HIPAA could apply

HIPAA could apply in the future if Ayura enters into a specific contractual relationship with a covered entity or business associate and handles information under that regulated arrangement. If Ayura supports such a workflow, separate terms, notices, or agreements may apply to that context.

5. How Ayura handles wellness information

Even where HIPAA does not apply, Ayura aims to handle personal and wellness data responsibly through privacy controls, security safeguards, data minimization, and user rights processes described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Not medical care

Ayura provides educational wellness support, not medical diagnosis, treatment, or emergency response. If you believe you have a medical issue or emergency, contact a qualified healthcare professional or emergency services immediately.

7. Global context

India and non-U.S. users

HIPAA is a U.S.-specific law. If you are outside the United States, your use of Ayura is generally governed by our Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and other applicable local laws rather than HIPAA.

U.S. users

This notice is intended to prevent confusion about HIPAA scope. It does not mean Ayura is a covered entity or that all data in Ayura is protected health information under HIPAA.
